How to install Revomia as an app on your phone and computer

Revomia runs in the browser, and that is the easiest place to start. But you can also put the site on your phone's home screen or in your computer's dock. After that it opens as a separate app: its own icon, its own window without an address bar. You do not need an app store for this.

What a PWA is and why Revomia works this way

A PWA (progressive web app) is a site that the browser can install as an app. Revomia is built this way, so it does not need an app store. The browser adds the icon itself and opens the site in a separate window without an address bar. System notifications work, and your saved cards stay at hand even when the internet is gone.

The code in the app is the same code as on the site. There is no separate build for Android, another for iOS and another for desktop, and no waiting for store review. A new version arrives when you simply open the app, with nothing to download.

What the installed app gives you

• An icon on the home screen or in the dock: one tap to launch, no hunting for the right tab.
• A separate window with no address bar and no other tabs alongside.
• Nothing to download from a store: the app installs straight from the browser.
• The app updates itself whenever you open it.
• Review reminders arrive as system notifications. On iPhone this only works for the installed app, more on that below.
• Saved cards stay available when the internet disappears.

Your cards stay with you offline

When you sign in or open the app afresh, Revomia fetches a snapshot of your cards from the server once and puts it in this device's browser storage. If nothing has changed since last time, the app does not download anything again.

The snapshot is refreshed once per session, so cards created after it was downloaded will reach the offline copy the next time you open the app.

The snapshot holds your topics and the cards themselves, question and answer. Review progress, dates and images do not go into it.

When the network drops and you open the app, instead of the system «no connection» message you get the Cards offline page. There you can:

• browse the card list page by page, twenty per page;
• search the text of a question or an answer;
• filter by topic;
• hide the question or the answer and test yourself;
• open a card in full in a separate window;
• switch the interface language to Ukrainian, English, German or Russian.

This is viewing of what was saved. Studying on schedule, creating and editing cards need a connection to the server, because the server is what counts repetitions and progress. The link to the offline cards sits in the menu and in the site footer, so you can open them at any time, not only when the internet is gone.

When you sign out of your account, the snapshot is erased from the device.

Android: Chrome

1. Open revomia.net in Chrome.
2. To the right of the address bar tap the menu button (three dots).
3. Choose «Install and create shortcut», then «Install».
4. Confirm by following the on-screen instructions.

The icon will appear on the home screen next to your ordinary apps.

iPhone and iPad: Safari

On iOS installing lives in the «Share» menu.

1. Open revomia.net in Safari.
2. Tap the «Share» button.
3. Scroll the list and choose «Add to Home Screen».
4. Correct the name if you wish and tap «Add».

If «Add to Home Screen» is missing from the list, scroll to the bottom, tap «Edit Actions» and add that item.

For iPhone owners this step matters more than it looks. Since iOS 16.4 Apple allows web notifications only for apps added to the home screen. In an ordinary Safari tab you cannot subscribe to reminders: that is a system restriction, not a Revomia setting. This is why your profile shows a hint to add the site to the home screen instead of the notification toggle. Once installed, the toggle works as usual.

Firefox

Firefox behaves differently on a phone and on a computer.

On Android installing works: open the site, tap «Install», and in the «Add to Home Screen» panel drag the icon where you want it or simply tap «Add».

On a computer Firefox cannot install web apps from a manifest. That requires a third-party extension, and native support is still in progress: Mozilla is experimenting with taskbar tabs on Windows, but it is not yet an ordinary browser feature.

In practice this means Revomia stays an ordinary tab in desktop Firefox: no separate icon and no separate window. Nothing else is affected: the app works in full, and the offline cards page is available too.

Computer: Chrome, Edge and Safari on macOS

Chrome and Edge

When you open a site that can be installed, an install icon appears in the right-hand part of the address bar. Click it and confirm. If you cannot see the icon, open the browser menu, the «Cast, save, and share» section, then «Install page as app».

Safari on macOS

Starting with macOS Sonoma, Safari saves any page as a web app. In the menu bar choose «File» → «Add to Dock», or click the «Share» button and pick the same item. Type a name and click «Add». The app lands in the Applications folder of your home folder, so you can launch it both from the dock and through Spotlight.

In all three cases the result is the same: a separate window without an address bar, and an icon wherever you keep the rest of your apps.

How to remove it

• Android: «Settings» → «Apps» → «See all apps», find Revomia and tap «Uninstall».
• iPhone and iPad: press and hold the icon on the home screen and delete it. Web apps installed from Safari do not show up in the list under «Settings», but you can see them in the «App Library».
• Chrome and Edge: open the app and choose «Uninstall» in the menu. The full list of installed apps lives at chrome://apps in Chrome and edge://apps in Edge.
• Safari on macOS: delete the app from the Applications folder like any ordinary program.

Removing the app does not touch your account. Cards, topics and progress are kept on the server, so the site opens in the browser as always, and you can install it again whenever you like.
